The existing buildings, recently
refurbished and set for tourism purposes, were built at the
very beginning of the 20th century in a cove to serve the
needs of the granite quarries, activity that contributed to
make Maddalena a vastly renowned site. The some 500
stone-cutters and apprentices populated for more than a half a
century this little spot of heaven leaving visible, historical
traces of their hectic activities and the memory of an ancient
past that any newcomer will easily remark.
